Michael Voss says it would have been “a bit wrong” for Jonathan Brown to completely relinquish leadership duties at  the Gabba.

Carlton:

Collingwood:
Key Magpie Dale Thomas faces a battle to play in round one, after coach Nathan Buckley conceded his star midfielder was still a “couple of months away” from a return.

Essendon:
The AFL’s initial 40-man Indigenous All-Stars squad has been announced with Essendon looming as the club that will be best represented in the exhibition match against Richmond in Alice Springs next weekend.

Fremantle:
Freo’s young key forwards will be given a chance to push their claims during the early stages of the NAB Cup as captain Matthew Pavlich completes his recovery from back surgery.

Geelong:
Three Geelong players have been named in a 40-man squad to play an exhibition match in the Northern Territory.

Gold Coast:
Suns defender Joel Wilkinson is competing with Jonathan Brown as the most powerful footballer in Queensland, having bench pressed 160kg three times to break a club record.

Speedy midfielder Isaac Smith is hoping he find a repeat dose of the one he provided on the field in his debut season
of 2011 after a relatively quiet season last year.

Melbourne:
New Demon Dean Terlich has been taken to hospital by ambulance after sustaining a blow to his head during a training session at Moorabbin Oval this afternoon

North Melbourne:
The Roos are reaping the rewards of a solid preseason with recruits Jordan Gysberts and Ben Jacobs leading the way.

Port Adelaide:
Exiting Port Adelaide captain Dom Cassisi has ruled himself out of contention for leadership group duties and believes it the ideal time for him to hand over the No. 1 jumper.

Richmond:
David Astbury feels as though he is finally over a series of injuries that hampered his third season in the AFL and is ready for a big year ahead.

St Kilda:
Saints veteran Lenny Hayes says it will take more than off-season heart surgery to keep him out of the AFL pre-season cup – and he hasn’t given up hope on extending his career past this year.

Sydney Swans:
After taking part in his first skills session in Coffs Harbour this week, Swans co-captain Adam Goodes has his sights set on round one.

Western Bulldogs:
The footballs are out at Whitten Oval this week in the lead up to NAB Cup and utility Christian Howard has been buoyed by the team’s progress during match simulation sessions.
